The Combine is a startup that builds startups to take enterprise IP to the market. Part of our ability to excel at that task is our ecosystem of experience, contacts, and expertise. If you had to pick an individual who has served a mayor of a major city (ATL!), a Governor of a really big state (California!), and a POTUS to lead your Board of Advisors, you probably would make that pick. So, we did.
Brian McGowan, Principal at Dentons
We are very excited to share that Brian McGowan will serve as the Chairman of The Combine Board of Advisors. Brian is a Principle at Dentons, the largest law firm in the world, where he is part of the US Public Policy and Regulation practice developing a new practice area focused on economic development. Brian is also a nationally-known economic development authority. Also, Brian is a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute. McGowan previously served Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as the leader of Atlanta’s Development Authority, Invest Atlanta. Brian was appointed by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve as California’s Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Commerce. Then President Barack Obama appointed him in 2009 as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce. In this capacity he was the Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
“Brian brings a huge advantage to The Combine. It’s our job to give our portfolio companies an unfair advantage in the marketplace. Having Brian on our team certainly accomplishes that task,” said K.P. Reddy, Co-Founder and Partner at The Combine. “Brian is certain to attract corporate development and innovation officers from the biggest and best companies in the U.S. That’s where we thrive, and Brian’s knowledge and understanding of the economic environment of these enterprises will help both The Combine and our clients create great new startups.”
McGowan added, “I’ve seen first hand how difficult it is for large enterprises to spin out their most disruptive creations, but The Combine offers big corporations the ability to innovate like a startup.”
As we build out our vertical innovation practices, Brian will lead our efforts to partner with the most influential leaders in new market spaces. So, welcome to The Combine Team, Brian!
